Ashfield Comprehensive joined the Enterprise Academy in September 2009 and their early focus was to get teams of Year 9 students up to speed with the Enterprise Challenge programme that had been happening across all schools since May 2009. After some very impressive work from students in their own time, the “Snazzy Snacker” team went on to win a number of categories at the Enterprise Oscars, including the overall winner, winning a trip to New York. They are now working with a LEO Business Advisor to develop their idea.
As part of Ashfield’s delivery plan, no limits are working with Dell Nicholls to support the integration of enterprise into the revised KS3 curriculum being developed at Ashfield school for September 2010.
Bolsover is a Business and Enterprise School in the heart of the Bolsover district and was one of the original schools involved in the Enterprise Academy.
Since then, the school has developed a variety of enterprise activity within their House system, which was introduced in September 2008. no limits supported the launch of this with a whole-school enterprise challenge event.
The enterprise academy is working with the school to develop enterprise learning and activities across the curriculum. Beverley Burton from no limits is currently working with the Deputy Head Teacher on integrating enterprise into the school’s development planning, and recognising the contribution of enterprise in a number of areas in the SEF.
The school has been particularly successful in the Enterprise Academy Enterprise Challenge Events, being the overall winner in 2008 and the Bolsover District Winner in 2009.
The school has recently launched its 'Enterprise Club': a weekly after-school club which students attend to develop their enterprise skills and business ideas.
Frederick Gent joined the Enterprise Academy Project in July 2009 and is the 4th school from the Bolsover District. Their first work within the project was to take part in the Enterprise Challenge programme and their in-school challenge took place at the end of September.
Beverley Burton from no limits is now working with the school to tailor an in-school Enterprise Audit to suit Frederick Gent’s needs, support completion of the audit and then plan support in response to identified needs.
James Veness is working with the Head of PSHEE to integrate self-employment and enterprise into the school’s World of Work programme.
Heritage School – January 2010
Heritage have focused on a number of aspects of enterprise during their time with the Enterprise Academy Project. They have been particularly focused on integrating enterprise into the PSHEE curriculum, and developing enterprise elements within the competency curriculum they are looking to introduce in September 2010.
The Enterprise Challenge event programme was very successful last year from both student and staff perspectives. The school has also launched an Enterprise Club which has initially been very successful in raising hundreds of pounds.
Holgate School – January 2010
Holgate School was one of the first schools involved in the project. It was decided that initial focus for the Enterprise Academy would be supporting development of enterprise activity with 6th Form Students.
no limits contributed to 6th Form induction week in September 07, delivering entrepreneurial you workshops with all Year 12 students. This encouraged many of the youngsters to come up with enterprise ideas and to think about starting their own enterprises. Staff joined the Academy’s equipped for enterprise training day in September 07 and, from that, developed a comprehensive plan to develop enterprise activity. This included working with the school on Engaging Businesses to support the development of enterprise capability. Learning from this is now being developed into further guidance and support on engaging business people on the enterprise agenda in schools for the benefit of schools and businesses.
Work during the end of 2009 focused on competing in the Enterprise Challenge programme and the start of 2010 is focused on setting up Holgate’s Enterprise Club.
Kirkby College – January 2010
Kirkby College have been developing enterprise learning in a number of ways since joining the Enterprise Academy in September 2008.
The Enterprise Academy has worked with year 7s – enterprise thinking workshops and year 9s – enterprise challenge programmes in 2008 and 2009. The 2009 winning team from Kirkby College, Munchees, have been successful in school and at local community events with their mobile tuck shop.
The Kirkby College Enterprise Club was launched in July 2009 and is developing, led by Kay Rye and supported by Annette Terry, a LEO Business Coach, and James Veness from no limits.
The Enterprise Academy has also been supporting the integration of enterprise into the development of the competency curriculum at Kirkby College.
Manor School – January 2010
Manor School is a Sports Specialist School located in Mansfield Woodhouse, just North of Mansfield. The initial focus was to further develop their Personal Development programme by integrating the development of students’ enterprise capability, developing a programme for Year 10 linked to gaining the ASDAN Certificate in Personal Effectiveness qualification.
A number of student workshops have been delivered as part of the programme so far. no limits facilitators delivered entrepreneurial you workshops for year 10 students during the Autumn Term 2007 to initiate enterprise work with students. enterprise thinking workshops were delivered with Year 7 students during the Spring Term 2008 and Cash Life workshops were delivered with year 9 students in Summer 2008.
Teams from Manor have participated in all Enterprise Challenge programmes with Sequel winning the Mansfield District award in 2009.
Meden are the latest school from the Mansfield District to join the Enterprise Academy project. They quickly got up to speed with the Enterprise Challenge programme and held their in-school event in July 09, taking two teams forward to the final that took place in October 09.
Meden are also working with James Veness from no limits to integrate enterprise into their KS4 PSCHEE curriculum with the development of programmes for students, staff training, and evaluations tools that demonstrate development of PLTS as well as enterprise understanding and capability.
A Meden governor has made a great contribution to the Enterprise Challenge programme as a judge and his input to the Engaging Businesses in Enterprise Best Practice event was invaluable.
Queen Elizabeth’s School – Autumn 09
Queen Elizabeth’s is located in the centre of Mansfield, and the school initially decided to use the Enterprise Academy project to further develop their Life Skills programme. They are integrating enterprise learning into this programme.
The Like Skills programme team decided that initial focus should be to develop a programme for Year 7 and then take developments forward into the rest of KS3 and KS4 so that there is clear progression from Yr 7 onwards. no limits developed the programme with the team. To support further development, no limits facilitators have delivered enterprise thinking workshops for Yr 7 students. The Enterprise Academy has also delivered a whole-staff training session on enterprise and it’s value across the curriculum, and worked with the senior leadership team and curriculum leaders to further embed the development of enterprise skills across the curriculum.
Queen Elizabeth’s teams have participated in all three Enterprise Challenge Programmes, including a very impressive TV advert from KDN Catering in 2009.
Samworth Church Academy – January 2010-01-08
Samworth Church Academy is very keen to see enterprise integrated into the curriculum and life of the school.
A number of staff are involved in different enterprise developments at the school supported by the Enterprise Academy. The school is looking to start their Enterprise Club during 2009/10 academic year. Beverley Burton is also working with the Head of Business to integrate enterprise qualifications into the curriculum to add value in KS4; including within delivery of the new BAF Diploma starting in September 2010.
Samworth have benefited from enterprise related workshops for students such as teamwork and creative thinking workshops for year 7, and have participated in two Enterprise Challenge programmes.
Shirebrook School – January 2010
Shirebrook school is at the heart of the community in Shirebrook, a village on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border. The school is using the Enterprise Academy project to further develop enterprise activities and learning across the school.
Tracy Horton, Head of Personal Development from Shirebrook, attended the Academy’s equipped for enterprise training day in September 07 and, since then, has worked with staff to identify opportunities to develop enterprise learning in the curriculum.

During 2008, Beverley and Jo from no limits have worked with Tracy and the Maths department to develop short financial capability programmes (with session plans, presentations and materials) to integrate into the Maths curriculum for years 7,8,9 and 10 to be delivered during the summer term. Look out for these in the materials and programmes section of the site.
Tracy has also been using personal development and enterprise materials developed by no limits in a programme to support vulnerable girls in yr 9 going into yr 10.
The Shirebrook Enterprise Club successfully launched in Autumn 2009 after a very successful Enterprise Challenge programme with Betty’s Butter winning a number of categories at the Enterprise Oscars.
The Enterprise Academy is now looking to support the school in integrating enterprise into their Science Specialist Status programme of activities.
Sutton Centre is a Business and Enterprise School at the heart of the Sutton-in-Ashfield community. The school decided that they wanted to focus initial development work on Year 8 students.
Two teachers who worked with Year 8 students attended the Academy’s equipped for enterprise training day in September 07, and then no limits worked with the team to develop a programme for Year 8, delivered by tutors and PSHE teachers.no limits facilitators started the programme with delivery of enterprise thinking workshops for all year 8 students. The programme and delivery materials developed for this enterprise programme are available to download in the ‘programmes and materials’ section of the website.
no limits then worked with the staff and students at Sutton Centre to evaluate the impact of the programme, developing and amending it for future years.
Beverley Burton is working closely with Chris Swales, the Enterprise Coordinator, to integrate enterprise into the KS3 competency curriculum, particularly looking at measuring progress and distance travelled.
The school has participated in all the enterprise challenge programmes to date, with Fruity Booty winning the Ashfield District Award in 2009. Chris Swales is planning to get an Enterprise Club up and running in the school during the Spring Term 2010.
